STORY / GAMEPLAY You control a tiny Tin Toy on a quest to break a dark spell cast by the Evil Clown over the House of Fun. As the inhabitants of the house and its surrounding areas are under the wicked clown's control, your task won't be easy and your journey will be particularly hazardous. As the brave Tin Toy, you must find your way to the House of Fun and defeat the evil boss who controls the house from the Spooky Attic and finally restore peace and tranquility that once filled the land.
The game involves jumping onto several platforms to obtain those little colorful stars that will increase your score. At the same time you must cope with incoming ground and airborne enemies. There are also several hazards along your way such as dead pits with spikes, water, lava and more.
Tin Toy has four spells and they work like magical spells. You don't get many, but you can find refills as you go around. Those spells are:
INFLATE (when you want to reach something above you by inflating yourself and float up for a short time),
HAT (when you want to cross a body of water or an area of spikes, giving you a big hat to carry you across),
WHIRLWIND (it spins you across the landscape quickly, whizzing every enemy) and
SMART BOMB (killing all baddies on the screen, by explosion).
The game's control might seem difficult at times, especially when you jump over dead pits or trying to avoid airborne attacks while shooting. Other than that, the game plays greatly and offers a lot of classic action platform fun, much like Zool.
GRAPHICS / SOUNDTin Toy is a beautiful game, better than many other games of its genre. The graphics are bright, with colorful backdrops, a few levels of parallax-scrolling and sprites abound. The Amiga version runs on AGA chipsets only and sports around 50 simultaneous colors, though we would expect more than that from the AGA chipset. So only every static screen is presented with more than 200 colors. The sprites move smooth and fast and the game's sound consists of some nice tunes and a variety of great sampled sound effects.
